The History of The NoMad London

The NoMad London occupies the former Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station, a Grade II-listed building with a rich past. Established in 1881, it played host to high-profile cases involving figures like Oscar Wilde, Emmeline Pankhurst, and the Kray twins. The police station next door once housed the Bow Street Runners, London’s first professional police force.
After the court closed in 2006, a careful restoration began, led by the Sydell Group, Roman and Williams, and EPR Architects. They managed to preserve the original character while layering in contemporary luxury.
The former courtroom has been transformed into the Magistrates’ Ballroom — now a grand event space — while the Bow Street Police Museum keeps the building’s history alive for visitors.
No detail has been overlooked. The soaring atrium is filled with cascading greenery, deep jewel-toned banquettes, and an eclectic art collection. Velvet drapes, marble finishes, and warm lighting bring an old-world elegance, while modern design touches keep it fresh and inviting.
Whether you’re sipping a cocktail at the NoMad Bar or dining beneath the atrium’s glass ceiling, the ambiance is effortlessly chic and endlessly photogenic.
